IN-Spiration Challenge: Wear Confidence on Your Sleeve

Confidence is everything. Any person can have a good idea or say something inspiring, but no one will hear it if there’s no confidence behind it. People would simply ask, “WHY should I listen to this guy?”

Right now, you might be thinking, “But I am confident. Why am I still not getting people to listen?” Unfortunately, the answer could be what you are wearing.

Confidence is a lot more than just what you say and how you say it. The truth is that we live in an extraordinarily visual society. Style is how you show your confidence.

Think about it for a moment. Think about everything in your closet. Now, pick out an outfit that makes you feel more confident. What makes you feel comfortable? Are they the same piece of clothing? More than likely, they are not. When we think of the comfiest piece of clothing in our wardrobe, we probably think of our favorite pair of sweatpants and an old t-shirt. Not something you’d wear to pitch meeting. Instead, you’d want to feel sharp in a nice suit or a classy dress. Right?

Every day, when I walk to my closet, I think, “What outfit will give me confidence today?” Even if I’m only wearing it to get coffee and write, I put that effort in to elevate my own confidence. That is why I am challenging you to do the same.

Starting tomorrow, I’m challenging you to walk to your closet and “put on” your confidence for the day. First, put on something that you would wear every day and take a picture. Think about how you feel and how you are standing when you are wearing that outfit. Then, find an outfit that brings you confidence.

You know those shoes you have in the back of your closet that made you feel powerful, but you wanted to save for a “special occasion?” Make today a special occasion. Want to wear jeans? Elevate them with a nice top and add a stylish accessory.

Once you find that confident outfit, take a picture and print it out next to the photo of your “comfortable” outfit. Do this every day so, at the end of the week, you can see and feel the physical difference in your confidence. Let that be your reminder the next time you want to dress in leggings in a large t-shirt to work because you felt lazy that day.

In-Spiration Challenge: Embrace Empathy

It has been awhile since I have posted anything on our blog. It’s partially due to the hectic work schedule that I pushed myself through the last several weeks. It’s also due to the design of our blog post schedule so we can continue to deliver quality content more efficiently.

Then, Charlottesville happened this weekend. It changed what I initially planned for this week’s theme.

This week we are going to focus on empathy.

Empathy is a skill that I am proud to possess, something instilled by my mother. It is also something often overlooked in the business world. It’s thought to be a weakness. It’s a symbol of status to be able to turn away those who cannot afford your product. It means you are a luxury brand; it’s exclusive.

However, this can not only be a disconnect from untouched target markets, but it can and has become dangerous. By making people believe that they are better and deserve superior treatment to everyone else, we begin to encounter anger when they are treated the same of everyone else.

Think about it

We see it every day in customer service and sales. There will be some customers that are calm and understanding when faced with a small mistake like the wrong coffee order. Mistakes are human and the coffee is remade. Then, there are the customers that throw a fit. They insult. Sometimes they yell. They also get a new cup of coffee, but who do you think those employees look forward to seeing again? Who will get the more active customer service?

The calmer customer displayed empathy, understanding, and they are the ones that will earn the loyalty of the many. The other is a product of culture telling them “You are inherently worth more and you don’t need to understand those considered below you.” Then, when they’re not treated with the utmost care, they get angry.

That is what we see now but on a larger and more dangerous scale. We are now faced with an entire group of people that were told they were better, deserved more, and who believe that power is being taken away just because some else wants to be treated with equality.

As business people and as people who control the image of society in the media, we have an obligation to condemn this behavior. We must show that we will no longer stand for this lack of empathy toward other cultures. We are all equal human beings who deserve to be respected, not threatened or forced into the shadows. Now is the time to understand one another, love one another.

The Challenge

So, my challenge for every one of my readers is to spread compassion. Display kindness. Express empathy towards those targeted by this hatred. Create an atmosphere at your business that embraces different cultures and ideas. Most importantly, do not show indifference.

Elie Wiesel once said, “The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of beauty is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, but indifference between life and death.”

Take a stand. Invest in love and empathy.

In-Spiration Challenge: Learning to Inspire Yourself

To start with, this post is a little late and we would like to apologize for that. Now that we are a month into the Write Mind Media brand, we are experimenting with the order of our usual posts to make a greater impact on our readers. Once we have a set schedule, we will post it here.

Now, for our challenge, which we are going to try on Mondays for now to inspire the rest of the week.

Our challenge this week is…. Be Your Own Inspiration.

We’re challenging you to be your own inspiration because if you cannot inspire yourself, you will never be able to inspire others. This could be through your own quotes and writings or look back on your own experiences. Look back on your life. What did you do that shook you to your core and shaped you into what you are today? Did you fail, but were persistent enough to get back up and follow your beaten path?

By reflecting on your own life you can find pearls of inspiration that can touch the lives of your audience just as they affected your life. We are daring you to take that into your own hands. Own it. Take pride in it. See these moments for the inspiring pieces of the story they are and allow it to shake the world.

So, write your own inspirational quote. Write a short memoir even if you are the only one reading it. Inspire yourself. You may be surprised by how much it will energize you to succeed in the future.

Then share them with us. Write Mind Media is always looking for inspiring quotes and stories to feature on our blog. We look forward to hearing from you.

IN-Spiration Challenge: Get Creative and Keep Moving Forward

Due to my negligence, there was not an IN-Spiration yesterday or today. So I am mixing it up and incorporating that IN-Spiration into this week’s challenge and, if you’ve been paying attention to my posts you probably know what the

focus is going to be on.

Disney! More notably, the creativity that inspired generations of artists, storytellers, and fans to unleash their inner child.

Your challenge this week is…GET CREATIVE!

“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” -Walt Disney

The beauty of creativity is that you can basically do anything. The Disney company is proof of that, being the first to produce a feature length animated film (“Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”) and ushering in a world-wide entertainment empire.

Being creative and fostering that idea within your company can help your business achieve the impossible and create something worth while.

Before you can do the impossible though, you must believe you can.

“When you believe in a thing, believe in it all the way, implicitly and unquestionable.” – Walt Disney

Even if you fail, the power of belief can help drive you towards an innovation that you could never imagine. So, get creative. Make something. Dance and sing like know is watching. Think outside of the box. No matter how impossible being creative might seem, you need to keep moving forward like Walt Disney always did.

John Lasseter continued to move forward despite business failures and being fired from Disney animation.

“Keep moving forward.” – Walt Disney

IN-Spiration Challenge: Let’s Change the World

This week was a short week. Our blog didn’t have as many posts. People had days off. However, that doesn’t mean it lacks impact. There were three IN-Spirations this week from three extremely inspiring individuals.

  • Elie Wiesel taught us to “Think higher, feel deeper” and listen to those who have a story to tell.
  • Elon Musk showed us that it’s not enough to just create something that fixes a problem. To be an icon, you must also find a way to inspire others.
  • Malala Yousafzai proved that no matter how small you think you are, you can change the world.

These topics were chosen with extreme care leading up to today’s IN-Spiration challenge.

This week’s challenge is:

Change the World!

I don’t mean you should create an Earth shattering peace agreement unlike any other at the G20 Summit. Although, if you do, that’s fantastic. What I am talking about is changing the world one small, good deed at a time.

  • Help a friend with a project.
  • Walk a little old lady across the street.
  • Volunteer at a homeless shelter.
  • Donate old clothes you don’t need.
  • Play with puppies and yes, that is a legitimate volunteer opportunity.

Taking a moment to get out of your head. Breaking away from the stress of work and life will help you see the world from a new perspective. It changes the way you think and react to your community. Allow it to inspire how your company can go from being another cog in the industrial machine into an inspirational influence.

IN-spiration Challenge: Dare to Step Out of Your Comfort Zone

We did it! The first week of Write Mind Media’s blog is all wrapped up.

Was it stressful? Yes.

Were there moments where I wondered what I was doing? Of course.

Were there technical difficulties? YEP!

However, here we are. We made it, but the end of the week can mean only one thing…. Our first In-Spiration Challenge!

All this week, our in-spiration posts have possessed a similar theme.

We want you to dare.

Each quote dared you to…

-Fail and struggle.

-Shake the world.

-Help others.

-Do the hard things.

This weekend, we want you to take this inspiration a step further. We want you to take a step out of your comfort zone and DARE. The most successful people in history are the ones who dared to be uncomfortable and struggle because they knew that their vision would be worth it in the end.

Talk to someone you don’t know. Start some crazy new business venture. It could even be as simple as taking a left instead of a right on your way to work. Just have fun with it.

Then, when the weekend is over, TELL US ABOUT IT! Go to our Facebook page, our Instagram, or comment down below and tell us how you dared this weekend. And don’t forget to keep an eye on our blog next week for more in-spiration and our next in-spiration challenge.
